The cat’s out of the bag. We’ll get right to the point; because the world of bed size names is too confusing to draw out this information any longer.

A double and full size mattress are the exact same size despite the different terms.

Often these terms are commonly used interchangeably. So it goes to stand that the sizes they represent are misunderstood. Naturally, if there are two different names in any industry, then our brains categorize them as different. But let’s get this straight right now: both double and full bed dimensions are 54 inches by 75 inches.

Who is a Double Bed Best For?

Double or full bed sizes are an upgrade from a twin but a little smaller than the popular queen size. Queen size beds are 60 inches by 80 inches. As such, double beds are best for single adults and/or those with small bedrooms. It’s more affordable than a queen and easier to move. Any accessories, including sheets and frames are also going to be cheaper to buy.

A bit of history for you, before queen and king sizes came along, double beds were the popular default size for couples. By the 1960s, queen and king sizes took the reign, as with anything new and shiny that comes along. Double beds quickly lost their traction among couples. That’s why, if you’re going to be sharing a mattress with another person or pet, queen size beds are bigger and better.
