It all started with wanting to re-invent the sleep and mattress industry. And that’s when Casper was born in 2014 by founders Philip Krim, Neil Parikh, Luke Sherwin, Jeff Chapin and Gabriel Flateman. They wanted to create a mattress buying, user-friendly experience that was easy and catered to customers.

That’s when the Original Casper Mattress was designed and launched into the world, and it’s set the high standard for other mattress start-ups that have entered the market. In what they refer to as their ‘Casper Labs”, they study the magic and science behind getting a good night’s sleep. How is the Original Casper Mattress constructed?

Cover: The top layer is 1.5” of Airscape perforated breathable polyfoam that increases airflow and conforms to your body to relieve pressure. Each mattress cover is also made with up to 57 recycled bottles.

Comfort Layers: This part consists of a 2-inch memory foam layer that is designed with a zoned supported system. These three zones provide targeted, firmer support that aligns your spine in the middle and provides more pressure relief towards your shoulders and feet.

Support Layers: The durable 7” base is either made from high-density polyfoam to provide even support and prevent sagging.

How is the Original Casper Hybrid Mattress constructed?

This mattress was designed as a version of the flagship all-foam mattress described above. It doesn’t feel much different than the original model but it does have some small differences in the design.

Cover: The top layer is 1.5” of Airscape perforated breathable polyfoam that increases airflow and conforms to your body to relieve pressure. Each mattress cover is also made with up to 57 recycled bottles.

Comfort Layers: This 2” memory foam layer features the same three zoned support system that the original all-foam mattress has.  These zones are specifically made to align your spine and provide more pressure relief.

Support Layers: Like other hybrid mattresses, this 6” layer is made from resilient, pocketed coils encased in 1” of polyfoam to add more bounce, support and airflow.

Cover: The Casper Wave Hybrid cover is made from a knit polyester blend and a thin coating of cooling gel.

Comfort Layers: Right under the cover is the first 1” layer of Casper’s special Airscape foam that is aerated to promote breathability throughout the mattress. Then comes another 1.5” layer of Airscape made with tiny holes that let hot air and body heat out.

Below these two layers is a 1.5” section of Casper’s tri-zoned memory foam, which is constructed strategically with three zones that provide targeted pressure relief to different areas of your body.

Transition Layer: In this 1.5” layer is another section of tri-zoned polyfoam that not only reinforces the supportive layer above, but also promotes better spinal alignment with the addition of gel pods under the waist and lower back. This is unique to the Casper Wave Hybrid and it’s what makes the mattress feel more luxurious, and the most advanced support system for spinal alignment.

Support Layer: In the final 6” layer is a tall section of pocketed coils encased in high-density polyfoam to stabilize the bed and prevent sagging.

Cover: The cover is made from premium foam that is plush and stretchy, which helps you achieve a cozy, comfortable sleep.

Comfort Layers: Next is a 1” layer of Casper’s Airscape open cell polyfoam that is plush, responsive and created with small holes to increase airflow and maximize cooling. This will feel more responsive and bouncy compared to memory foam but hot sleepers will appreciate the breathability.

Next up is a 1.5” layer made of Airscape foam that is ventilated and zoned to align your spine and provide more relief. It’s divided into three different foam sections; there’s firmer foam at the hips and lower back then softer foam at the shoulders.

Transition Layer: This layer is an upgrade from the standard tri-zoned support, and is constructed with 7 support zones to help provide more support under the waist and maintain a neutral spine, regardless of your sleep position.

Support Layers: The final layer and foundation of the Nova Hybrid model is made from resilient pocketed coils encased in high-density foam. This layer is instrumental in lifting sleepers up and reinforcing strong edge support. Not to mention, pocketed coils are a great way of promoting extra airflow.

Casper vs Purple

Both of these brands are well-known, popular trailblazers in the bed-in-a-box industry, boasting numerous positive reviews. They both offer superior mattresses made of high-quality, safe materials.
